Coatings & Industry > CORROSION > Humidity chamber
CONTINUOUS CONDENSATION HUMIDITY CHAMBER according ISO 6270-1 and ASTM D4585

This test is also known as the Cleveland condensation test.
This test is primarily intended to determine the water resistance of organic coatings by controlled condensation.

For testing water resistance of coatings using controlled and continuous condensation.
Condensation is produced by exposing one surface of a coated specimen to a heated, saturated mixture of air and water vapor, while the reverse side of the specimen is exposed to the cooling effect of room temperature air.

Water set up temperature is 40 °C to match condition imposed by ISO 6270-1 standard.
Standard speaks about one air temperature, measured at 25 mm from sampling, uniform and constant at ±2 °C and not less than 35 °C, meaning a temperature of 37 °C ±2 °C.
Ambient temperature outside of apparatus must be held at 23 °C ±2 °C.
Temperature regulator precision is  2 °C at 40°C

Box made of Polypropylene  - Size: 110 x 33 x 20 cm
Electrical heating devise located in the bath
Digital Temperature display with reading at 0.1 °C
Digital Control Thermometer located on the cover
Water bath constant level by automatic water feeding .
Power : 1000 W - 220 V -50 Hz
Important : For this test, we advise to use demineralized water (2 bar pressure)

(1) Welded polypropylene tank
(2) PVC cover holding 20 samplings
(3) Digital thermometer giving exposure sampling temperature
(4) Feeding of water with constant level
(5) Drain pipe
(6) Water temperature regulation system
(7) Main electrical wire

ISO 6270-1 extract

This European Standard supersedes EN ISO 6270:1995.

5.4 The top of the bath shall be designed so that the test panels are held at the preferred angle of (60 ± 5)° to the horizontal to permit drainage of condensed water, and shall be such that water draining from one panel does not come into contact with another.
An angle of (15 ± 5)° may be used on old equipment if specified.
